Could Sales, Marketing & Communications hold your next opportunity?
Sales, marketing and communications are business-critical departments with varied and interesting career paths.
Roles in these departments have both internal and external faces, as they need to be close to the business operations whilst also having an in-depth knowledge of our customers and market conditions.
All three functions work hand-in-hand, each informing and supporting the other.
Our Sales teams are the lifeblood of our business. They have a deep understanding of how our products can help solve the challenges of our customers. They work closely with internal departments to create a customer experience that builds loyalty and trust. They are our most important brand ambassadors and a vital link to the marketplace.
Marketing and Communication work together to compile a broad industry and customer knowledge. They use creativity, insights, persuasion and stakeholder management to help us stand out in the market place and remain fully informed.
To thrive in these roles, it helps to be:
- very people-orientated
- good at communication
- adept at multi-tasking
- a creative problem solver
- empathetic and perceptive

I’ve been with the business 10 years now and I’ve had a REALLY varied career in that time, turning a job into a career that I have absolutely loved. I’ve worked hard and that work has been recognised in the path that I’ve taken. One thing I have really learnt is that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I joined in 2013 in a new role called “Merchant Sales Support” for the central UK region and got so many opportunities to learn about our industry from different angles. My promotion to North West Area Sales Manager came as perfect next step, as it suited me geographically and also provided broader insights into our routes to market and full customer journey. My maths and finance degree was also put to good use with the pricing responsibilities of this role. I then moved into a secondment role in the Allocation Team, followed by my dream role as Merchant Sales Support Manager. It was here that I grew a team around me of 4 people. Following all the changes during Covid, different opportunities then arose and in August 2020, I was offered the role Head of Communications within the Marketing Team. In this role, I took the responsibility for the internal and external communications with a team of 2 plus an apprentice. Not long after this appointment, my role was expanded to also take responsibility of the Digital element of the Marketing Team too – introducing me to a subject I was completely novice in! I stay here because this business is a testament to its people. I feel we have the ability to recruit like-minded individuals who all bring a touch of their own uniqueness. The people at KI are dedicated to doing better for themselves, the business but also the greater good. We work hard but we allow our people to flourish and have fun at the same time. No wonder it doesn’t feel like 10 years that I’ve been here!

I’ve worked at Knauf for about 7 ½ years and have had some wonderful opportunities which have allowed me travel and develop lots of new skills. Travel and exploring new places are real passions for me and so I have grabbed the opportunities to live and work in different UK cities, such as Manchester, Liverpool and Bristol. I’ve not only learnt about the business in those different regions, but also enjoyed living in these vibrant and exciting cities. I came to Knauf after I graduated from university with a degree in Business Management and Finance. Starting in the Commercial Support team allowed me to learn about all our customers, processes and building strong relationships in the head office before joining the external commercial team within 9 months. I was then promoted to Merchant Sales Support covering the South-West (this is when I lived in Bristol) for 2 years. I moved back up North to Manchester in 2018 to take up the role of Area Sales Manager (North-West). I was at this role for around 3 years before securing promotion to my currently team within UKSP, looking after our biggest OEM customers. It's the opportunity to progress and the global scale of the business which really excites me about Knauf. I hope one day to work with the business in another country. I also value the support and every team that I have worked in has been fully supportive and encouraging. I have had the pleasure of working with some fantastic colleagues both past and present and I look forward to an equally enjoyable future at Knauf.
